Confess & Believe
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.
– Romans 10:9-10
These few words from Paul to the Romans form the foundation of our faith. They’re echoed in the Nicene Creed and lived out in every believer’s testimony. Salvation rests on two pillars: confess that Jesus is Lord, and believe that He was raised from the dead.
To believe with the heart means more than mental agreement—it’s a soul-deep conviction that shapes our words and actions. If we truly believe Jesus rose from the dead, our lives should reflect that resurrection power.
To be justified implies judgment. In the Old Testament, Israel offered unblemished lambs and goats to atone for sin. Their sacrifices reflected what they believed in their hearts. But now, Jesus has become our perfect sacrifice. His blood covers our sin. He is the only way we can be justified before God.
Our God is loving and merciful—but sin cannot dwell in His holy presence. That’s why Jesus came. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. As Peter writes in 1 Peter 1:8,9:
“Although you have not seen Him, you love Him; even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of your faith—the salvation of your soul.”
