Fishing

And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear. From now on you will be taking men alive.”
– Luke 5:10

Simon had been fishing all night without catching a single fish. Frustration and discouragement must have weighed heavily on him. Yet when Jesus asked him to throw the nets overboard one more time, Simon does so. The nets overflowed with fish, so full they began to tear.
Simon had been a fisherman, but the Lord had bigger plans for the man. Jesus tells him that he will now be “taking men alive”, in Greek taking alive is ζωγρέω.
Jesus came to bring life and renewal to His followers, and Simon was to be one of the people to spread this good news. Before Christ, people were dead in their sins; unable to pay the cost of redemption. But now through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus, we are born anew, becoming children of God.
Death no longer has a hold on God’s people. Through the Gospel, the words of life are preached. Believers are forever alive in Christ.
Simon and the rest of the Apostles and disciples spread the Gospel of Christ across the entire world. Countless lives have been saved through the blood of Christ. Indeed, Simon caught many men; and his work still continues to this day.
Jesus tells us that His Word will never perish(Matthew 24:35), for it is everlasting-eternal just as Yahweh is eternal. We read in Isaiah that Yahweh is El Olam, the Everlasting God(Isaiah 40:28).
