Jealous God

But miserable, with their hopes set on dead things,
are the men who give the name “gods” to the works of men’s hands,
gold and sliver fashioned with skill,
and likenesses of animals,
or a useless stone, the works of an ancient hand.
– Wisdom 13:10

Idols. The worship of anything other than Elohim Chay Yahweh, the Living God. He alone is the LORD, and our hearts and minds must be set on Him, not on what human hands have fashioned.
Throughout the Old Testament, stones and altars were raised — not as idols, but as memorials of covenant and divine acts. Jacob at Bethel (Genesis 28:18–22) poured oil on a pillar after encountering God. Joshua set twelve stones at Gilgal (Joshua 4) to remember crossing the Jordan. Samuel raised the Ebenezer stone (1 Samuel 7:12) after Yahweh delivered Israel from the Philistines. Moses built twelve pillars at Sinai (Exodus 24:4–8) to seal the covenant in blood. Each monument was a testimony: “Thus far the LORD has helped us.
In a similar way, Christian tradition has used images of Mary and the saints — not as objects of worship, but as reminders of God’s covenant work through His people. Mary bore the Messiah, ushering in the eternal covenant. The saints, many martyred, stand as witnesses to God’s faithfulness. These images should be venerated as memorials, never worshiped as gods.
It is right to worship God alone, for He is Elohim Kanna, the Jealous God. Nothing made by human hands can replace Him. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all existence; without Him, there is nothing but God alone.

Elohim Chay, keep my heart free from idols. Let my life be a living memorial to Your covenant.
