Raised
For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins.
– 1 Corinthians 15:16,17
Sin separates humans from God. Before there was sin, Adam and Eve lived with God in the Garden. Once the couple sinned due to the temptation of Satan, they are removed from the Garden; removed from the presence of God. God is holy and love; sin can stem from jealousy, greed and more.
In the 4th century a monk by the name of Evagrius Ponticus composed a list of the worse kinds of sins. These sins came to be know as the Seven Deadly Sins which are envy, lust, gluttony, greed, pride, wrath, sloth. These sins were considered to be extremely heinous that required repentance.
If Jesus had not raised from the dead, the only way to remove our sins would be animal sacrifices, as seen throughout the Old Testament. The entire human race would still be lost in our sins and death would still rule over us.
Jesus did in fact rise from the dead. He didn’t do just that, He also took all our sins on His shoulders. We are long separated from God, He resides in us in the form of the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we have been given the greatest gift of all – eternal life with the Lord in paradise. Sin and death have no power over us, not because of something we have done, but because Jesus died and rose again.
