Requirement
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
– Micah 6:8
Micah is telling us that the Lord does not want burnt offerings out of obligation to the law, but rather trust and obedience that comes out of the heart. Jesus fulfilled the old law that required offerings for the redemption of sins.
To practice justice is related to the sentencing of a criminal when in the court of law. There will always be evil and crime in the world, and those who commit such actions are to be punished, but punished justly – in accordance to the law.
To love kindness can also be translated to love mercy. God wants His people to show others mercy. Help those in need, don’t hold grudges and forgive those who wrong us. We are all sinful, none of us are worthy of standing before God.
Lastly, the Lord wants us to be examples to others. To be the light in the darkness; to be the salt of the earth. Others should be able to see Jesus in Christians through their actions.
