Studying and Knowledge of scripture

2 Timothy 3:10 – 17

Doctrine is the only term referring to knowledge. The other three are terms showing a change in one’s life. Just because some one had that knowledge but does not apply it makes the knowledge useless.

John 5:37 – 40

The religious leaders of Jesus’ time were knowledgeable of the Old Testament scriptures. Yet they failed to see Jesus as the Messiah. Jesus tells them that they search the scriptures for eternal life, but eternal life is only through Jesus Christ; the one the scriptures prophesied about.

2 Timothy 1:13 – 14

Paul tells us that we are to “hold fast” a “pattern” of sound words. The word “pattern” in Greek is upotiposin which means a sketch, or outline. We are to follow the outline laid out by Paul, which he received from Jesus Christ. Our “pattern” is to be centered around faith and love in Christ.
