Words
I tell you, on the day of judgement people will render an account for every careless word they speak. By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
– Matthew 12:36,37
Our words are a reflection of our state of mind and our intentions. A person’s true colors are revealed in the words that they speak, whether they intended it or not. A single word or phrase has the power to brighten someone’s rough day, just as it could also destroy someone’s dreams and hopes.
It’s important to choose our words wisely, and to think before we speak. The writer of Proverbs described a wise man as thus: “He who spares his words is truly wise, and he who is chary of speech is a man of intelligence”(Proverbs 17:27). Once words are spoken, it’s impossible to take them back.
One of the many wise saying my mother taught me growing up is that if you don’t have something good to say, then don’t say anything at all. As Christians we are called to a higher standard, to be a light in the darkness. Let us spread our love of Christ through our words.
